Courses Descriptions

BACWWE courses prepare students for many different features of the water/wastewater industry, including water and wastewater treatment, wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems, water conservation, and the basic scientific concepts underlying all of these.

BACWWE courses and books are available at no charge to students. Students must email, bacwwe@solano.edu and request courses (Please be sure to include CRN and SCC ID#).

Solano Water/Wastewater courses are available to BACWWE students to accelerate requirements for degrees, certificates, and certifications. Students must pay for courses and books, and register for Solano Water/Wastewater courses at My.Solano.edu

WATR 103 - Biological Principles of Water and Wastewater

Course Advisory: SCC minimum English and Math standards. Hours: 48-54 lecture. This course examines the biological and ecological properties of the bacteria, protozoa, fungi, algae, viruses, and animals whose control is important to the provision of safe drinking water supplies and environmentally safe wastewater. The course emphasizes the microbiology of drinking water, wastewater, and activated sludge, and examines the microbial sampling, analysis, and treatment strategies important in this industry.

Prerequisite: WATR 104 with a minimum grade of C. Course Advisory: SCC minimum English and Math standards. Hours: 48-54 lecture. This course covers advanced topics in the control of ions and disinfecting chemicals in drinking water. In addition it covers the issues of safety, regulation, administration, and maintenance of a water treatment plant. This course will often be taught at an off-campus site.
